I recently volunteered with www.metrocinema.org, a wonderful community-based non-profit society devoted to the exhibition and promotion of Canadian, international and independent film and video in Edmonton, Alberta.
I was offered the opportunity to reimagine the poster for one of my all-time favourite films, Casablanca!
Who could say no to that?
One thing I wanted to avoid was touching on cliches too directly, while acknowledging the history of the film and it's noire roots. I wanted to walk the line between a modern interpretation, while not ignoring the elements of the period. I especially wanted to convey the element of the film that I felt most drawn toward, Rick's struggle between desires and values, and ultimately, the immense decision he had to make.
I hope that you enjoy this piece as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Thanks again :)
